Half Life is a sci-fi FPS (first-person shooter) about theoretical physicist Gordon Freeman, who is late for work at Black Mesa research facility. During a test, they unknowingly started a Resonance Cascade. “The Resonance Cascade is a cataclysmic quantum event created after the insertion of Xen crystal sample "GG-3883" into the Anti-Mass Spectrometer at Black Mesa by Gordon Freeman, culminating in the Black Mesa Incident.” You, “Gordon Freeman”, now have to find an exit out of the facility, and fight through hordes of extraterrestrial beings, the military, and, most importantly, puzzles.
Left 4 Dead is a cooperative horror-like FPS. You can be any one of the four survivors of the zombie apocalypse, the characters being Bill, Zoey, Francis, and Louis. You’re SOMEWHERE in America, and you have to go through hordes and hordes of zombies, to get to the next safe room. Along the way, you will come across of course zombies, but there’s a type called “Special Infected”, which can do different things to continuously kill, annoy, or throw you off course. But, with your skills in both cooperation and getting out of tricky situations, you should be fine.
Portal is a first-person shooter, puzzle and platformer game. The story starts off with you, Chell, in the Aperture Science Enrichment Centre and Testing Facility. You take hold of a gun called the ASHPD (Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device), which can open two portals in the walls, allowing you to get to places you wouldn’t normally be able to reach. With this wonderful piece of technology, the AI controlling the facility (GLaDOS) forces you to do tests, some including the pain inducing Turret. And, at the very last test, you shall be given a cake, just ask Marie Antoinette.
Team Fortress 2 is the sequel to Team Fortress Classic, and has changed dramatically since its inception. It now has a cartoonish style, and is now Free-To-Play, but still having the feel and gameplay of a first-person shooter. You take control of one of nine mercenaries: the Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy. Each mercenary has their own unique tool, health meter, and weapon (which you can switch out for other weapons for that class). The Team Fortress community even has their own economy so that you can get special items to have like strange weapons, taunts, and even hats (that you can buy with metal or with real money). You can jump right into any game with anyone, but if you need something to kill that isn’t controlled by a player, theres Mann vs Machine, a game mode where you and a couple of other people have to fight against waves of robots that are replicas of the nine classes. Have fun!

Well, that about wraps up the article! Hope you enjoyed this article and maybe think about getting these games if you haven’t already (all the money paid for the games is given to our lord and saviour Gabe Newell). And with that, I bid you gamers farewell.
